This most likely isn't novel to many readers, but you had me genuinely laugh out loud when referencing the "Rogan cinematic universe".
On the topic of Meta disbanding its fact checking program, I agree free speech is good! The challenges on platforms like Meta's with free speech remind me a recent Economist article, "Assisted dying and the two concepts of liberty," namely the ideas of negative liberty "freedom from" and positive liberty "freedom to."
I think this could be helpful language for ideas like freedom of speech.
Thanks for paying more attention the study on memory formation outside of the brain! Quite certain I saw this too but was too lazy I guess to get into the details. This is at once fascinating on it's own, but the implications for what we can do to train certain types of cells to do, and the connection to the work that Levin has done, is certainly a reason to be optimistic.
Not so certain that I agree with you on Zuck - though.
Holy sh*t didn’t know about telepathy tapes, I can only imagine how this must feel for this community - autistic non speaking children and their parents. And the anecdotes and scientific together challenging our pre conceived notions- love that!
I find many of your posts entertaining, but I agree with Jason on disagreeing with you on Meta. First of all, what makes you think that Meta is good now and not before when it introduced its content control systems, I believe it has been wrong for a loooong time. It seems we have a short memory of forgetting The Cambridge Analytica scandal. FB & Meta has never been about free speech, it has been about profit-making utilizing its users' data information and content all along.
Secondly, even if deleting its fact-checking solutions and dismantling its DEI program, can you please confirm your position and take when it comes to free speech and content misinformation? I believe there is a clear misunderstanding of free speech and its abuse to spread lies and disinformation on purpose, and the freedom to speak what you consider as right or wrong and to speak your beliefs. Fact-checking came to tackle the former and not the latter.
Thirdly, how effective do you think the new community notes approach will be to tackle misinformation and disinformation? Do you believe that overall news and proper information, not opinions, should be controlled and fact-checked somehow? Or anyone is just free to spread opinions as news according to free-of-speech?

Great newsletter so many reasons for optimism!
Love the Enron egg...
But love The Telepathy Tapes more. Listened to them over the holidays - such a paradigm shift
Hi, I think there might be a mistake around lithium production numbers. You write "but “In 2021, the world produced only 105—not 105,000—tonnes.” ".
However, your source says 113,000 tons in 2022, and their source says 107,000 in 2021.
That was a quote from the article linked, but good catch… that would be quite the jump. Will look into it!

I wonder if you could use HIP to hide your own cells from your immune system for autoimmune diseases like MS or Lupus
