Great post. What are the Spotify economics like for artists when they are using the self-serve tools and not working with a label?

Hi Packy,

First of all, I love the content you're putting out. I've been following you for some time and you remain my most exciting read of the week!

I've been having problems with the email version though. I normally forward all my blogs to Instapaper to avoid inbox clutter and have all my reading in one location, but your posts are often too long for Instapaper. Do you know if there is a way to get around this?

Thanks,

Henry

Amazing article, perhaps even better than usual! So just so I understand correctly, as an artist is licensing a song to Epidemic or to a record label an either/or? Originally I understood it as just a way to decrease the headache of so many individual licensing contracts (aka something you add on top of your Spotify streams in order to work with "storytellers"), but in describing the way Epidemic songs "water down" Spotify it feels like more of a binary? Or can Epidemic only add songs to Spotify where they are the exclusive licensers of that IP?
