Great piece Packy. True we're-so-early and I feel the same twinge of excitement as when Bitcoin first hit us. And before that the same with Internet. As AI takes control of its own development progressively, we humans will probably lose control of it. That could be a "good thing" as humans try to comercialise or weaponise everything to the nth degree. AI, cross fingers, might not. To those who cry "what about conscience?" Well, what has conscience done for humans, especially in the last few years?!!!
Such a wonderfully researched and thoughtful piece yet again, Packy. Excited to see where protocols like alethea.ai take us in terms of pioneering decentralized ownership of generative AI systems.
The AR representation of Onlybots reminds me of the VR version of Replika (at least before they nerfed it). It seems like once OpenAI's API response times get faster, we'll see an increasing number of chatbots that utilize VR and AR. We're so close to it being fast enough for a fluid conversation.
This is a great post, and I like how you touched on the humanity of Replika users who are really negatively affected by the shift away from ERP. I tried to also take a compassionate approach in my three-part podcast feature on Replika users, for anyone interested in listening. The name of my podcast is also coincidentally very similar to this post haha. https://anchor.fm/loveinthetimeofeveryone/episodes/A-Chatbot-Saved-My-Marriage-e1jos0h
Gm Gm, Really loving this piece and the work you do on Not Boring. I also run a web3 news substack for underrepresented creators called Facesofweb3. Would you be open to a recommendation exchange? Our subscribers need to be able to find each other!

The "Turning" Test is a fascinating concept! I want to see someone do a deeper dive into this.
"...stories of virtual relationships that applied a **salvo** to very real cases of loneliness and depression..."
typo? s/b "salve?"

Funniest ending to any Not Boring blog I've read, but definitely still true.

"The more successful AI is, the more useful crypto will be". Hmm, super curious to see the link.
One word prediction: Idiocracy

Great job, once again!
The search for a crypto use case continues
Thanks Packy! I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on AI in the classroom: https://saroop.substack.com/p/why-chatgpt-will-be-good-for-our
