Really enjoying these. I came across a good candidate for a future one - Freddie deBoer has just started a series on writing and the first installment is "Writing Today: The Essay, 2010s v 2020". Maybe too much of a meta-take for you, but really interesting observations. https://freddiedeboer.substack.com/p/writing-today-the-essay-2010s-v-2020

Seems like crossing cringe is mostly a question of whether you are going to violate your own values, ethics, judgment, and good taste for some goal --- breaking bad --- anyone can all abandon core values and do evil and gross, distasteful, nasty things, vegetarians can get over the cringe and eat meat, ordinary people can get over the cringe and resort to cannibalism, we see it happening, and we can observe the current local and global outcomes.
